If I want the true Lowcountry marsh experience should I leave from downtown or would Hunting Island State Park be better?

For a true Lowcountry marsh experience, Hunting Island State Park would be the better option. The park offers a more immersive natural setting with winding tidal creeks, lush marsh grasses, and abundant wildlife, including wading birds and even the occasional dolphin sighting.
If you prefer a mix of marsh and scenic views with a touch of history, launching from downtown Beaufort is also a great choice. From downtown, you can paddle through the Beaufort River and enjoy views of historic homes and the picturesque waterfront, but it won’t be as secluded as Hunting Island.
Both options are excellent, so it depends on whether you’re seeking a serene, nature-focused trip (Hunting Island) or a mix of nature and town charm (downtown Beaufort).
